Imagine your country banning the #2 most used search engine in the world and home to countless online channels that can’t be found anywhere else. That’s exactly what Turkey did in May 2008. The ban is being lifted as of today, but only after some videos deemed as offensive by some were completely removed.
What impact would a similar ban in the United States have? I can think of many examples of people who have made careers as “YouTubers.” I heavily encourage any business owner who loves their products and services to make short videos and upload them to YouTube.
Americans are lucky to have the access to media from all over the world. It’s too bad the same couldn’t be said for the people of Turkey, but I hope they can take advantage of the power of this channel, both for the spread of info and also the tools it gives businesses to be seen and heard. -Ross
