Facebook’s Frequent Changes Require User-Friendly Workarounds

by Ross Trumble 2/22/11

Recently Facebook made a change to the way that photos are viewed by its 500M+ users. The problem with the new “Photo Viewer” is that it was not needed and actually made the experience of looking through an album much less user friendly and enjoyable.

It hasn’t been difficult to find people who feel the same way. I’ve seen many open ended complaints from other users and made a couple myself. The annoyance of the photo viewer has been a popular topic lately. The biggest complaints have been about the black box “theater feature” which is not pleasing to the eye and the overall difficulty to navigate through pictures.

Today, I have good news. There are ways to disable that function and go back to the old way to view pictures for both Firefox and Chrome. Internet Explorer currently does not have a work-around.

I have personally tested out both and found that the Chrome “disabler” of photo viewer works better, but the Firefox version gets the job done too. I have included links for each and thanks to Hisham Sadek for the tips.

Firefox – Facebook Lightbox Killer

Chrome – No Thanks, Theaterbox
